Holiday Routes User Guide
Everything you need to plan, share and enjoy your trips
1Welcome
Holiday Routes builds a complete day-by-day itinerary for you: where to drive or fly, what to see, where to eat, where to sleep and, for electric cars, where to charge. You can then change anything, keep your bookings in one place, take the route to your navigation app and share it with family and friends.
There are four ways to travel, and the app adapts to each one:
- 🚗 Car / road trip – you drive from home. Great for electric cars: the plan includes charging stops.
- ✈️🚗 Flight + car – you fly to your destination and rent a car there.
- ✈️ Flight only – you fly and get around by train, public transport and on foot.
- 🚐 Caravan / camper – you tow a caravan or drive a motorhome; the plan includes campsites and pitches.
2Getting started
- Open app.holidayroutes.eu in your browser (computer, tablet or phone).
- To create an account, click Create Account. While Holiday Routes is in private beta you need an invitation voucher code. Enter it with your email (for example user@example.com) and a password of at least 8 characters, then accept the beta terms. Ticking the box for product news and tips by email is optional.
- We send you a confirmation email. Open the link in it (valid for 48 hours) to activate your account. No email? Check your spam folder, or try to sign in and click Send the email again.
- Next time, just enter your email and password and click Sign In to Holiday Routes.
- Forgot your password? Click Forgot password? and follow the link we email you.
Your profile
Open Menu → Profile to add your name, country and preferred units (kilometres or miles). If you drive an electric car, pick it from the list: the app then knows its real range and plans charging stops that suit it. You can also change your password here.
3Finding your way around
- Trip selector (top left) – switch between your trips. The ✏️ pencil renames the trip.
- New Trip, Share, Delete – the main actions for the selected trip. Live Sync shows your changes are saved automatically.
- Bookings Vault – all your tickets and confirmations (see chapter 8).
- KM / MI and the flag – units and language.
- Summary – number of days, total distance, your car's range, travellers and food preferences.
- Search and filters – find a place, jump to a day, or show only sights, chargers, restaurants, hotels or campsites.
- Day cards – everything planned for each day, with buttons to change it.
4Creating a new trip
Click + New Trip. One form covers all four ways to travel; the fields change depending on the travel mode you choose.
- Give the trip a title, for example "Summer by the lakes".
- Choose how you will travel: Car, Flight + Car, Flight Only or Caravan / Camper.
- Pick the dates. The number of days is calculated for you (or type the number of days yourself).
- Type your starting city and your main destination. Suggestions appear as you type; click the right one.
- Set the trip purpose, the travellers (for example "2 adults, 1 child aged 5"), your car and any food preferences.
- Click ✨ Generate with AI for a complete plan, or Create Blank Trip to fill in the days yourself.
5Road trips by car
Choose Car / Road Trip, then search for your car by brand or model (for example "Ioniq 5" or "Model Y"). For a petrol or diesel car, click Custom and type its name.
- Each day shows the distance and driving time. Click it to see that day on the map.
- For electric cars, each charging stop shows an estimated battery level when you arrive and when you leave (the climbs and the season included), and the real fast charger nearby.
- Legs are kept to a comfortable length for your car and your group, with breaks for children when needed.
- Menu → Pacing & Days shows driving days versus rest days, and lets you insert or remove days.
Planning your charging
When you create an electric-car trip with ✨ Generate with AI, the charging stops are planned with real fast chargers straight away, day after day. Use ⚡ Plan charging to look at or change one day, and ⚡ Plan every day in the same window to re-plan the whole trip after big changes.
- On a driving day of an electric-car trip, click ⚡ Plan charging (next to Recalculate Route).
- Check Battery when you set off. It is 90% after a night at a hotel with a charger; otherwise it continues from the day before. Change it if needed and click Recalculate.
- The plan lists real fast chargers within a few kilometres of your route, where to stop, the battery when you arrive and leave, and about how long to charge.
- Click Use this plan to replace the day's charging stops with these stations.
6Flight + car trips
- Choose Flight + Car.
- Fill in the departure airport and arrival airport (for example "Seville (SVQ)") and the outbound and return dates.
- Optional: click ✨ Search Flights with AI for suggested direct flights and times.
- Add your starting city and destination, then generate the trip.
Flight cards show the airline, flight number, times and an indicative price. Optimize Flights looks for better options, and Menu → Flights lets you search and compare flights for any day. Always book with the airline or your agent; prices shown are estimates.
On the outbound flight card, 🚗 Rent a car compares rental cars at your arrival airport, and each hotel card has 🛏️ Stays on Booking.com. See Booking a car or a place to stay in chapter 9.
7Flight-only trips
Choose Flight Only for city breaks and trips where you get around by train, metro, bus or on foot. The plan groups sights close together, suggests family-friendly places and restaurants, and places the hotel near public transport.
On the flight that takes you there, two buttons help with the last part of the journey: 🚆 Public transport to the hotel opens the train, metro and bus route from the airport to your hotel, and 🚕 Airport taxi opens our partner's airport taxi search, where you enter the airport and your hotel. The taxi button is a partner link: we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.
8Caravan and camper trips
- Choose Caravan / Camper.
- Select your vehicle type and the kind of pitch you prefer.
- Tick what you need at the campsite: electric hook-up, fresh water, chemical toilet disposal, pets allowed.
- Generate the trip.
- Distances are marked Towing and use caravan speeds, so times are realistic.
- The 🚐 Caravan Hitched button switches a day to Basecamp (Unhitched) when you stay put and explore by car.
- The Campsites & Pitches section of each day lists places to stay with the facilities you asked for.
9Changing your plan
Every day card has the same buttons:
- ✏️ (pencil) – change the day title, route, day type, distance and time.
- ➕ Add Stop – add a sight, charger, hotel, restaurant or note.
- +📅 – insert a new day after this one. 🗑️ – remove the day.
- ⚡ Recalculate Route – updates the road distance and time through your stops. It also happens by itself a moment after you add or remove a stop.
- On each place: Google Maps opens it, Map shows it on the trip map, ✨ AI fills in details, ⭐ marks a highlight, ✏️ edits and 🗑️ deletes.
Booking a car or a place to stay
- 🛏️ Stays on Booking.com on a hotel card opens Booking.com in a new tab, already searching that town with your dates and travellers (for example 2 adults and a child aged 5). Choose and book the place you like there.
- 🚗 Rent a car on the outbound flight card of a flight + car trip compares rental cars at the airport you land at.
- The booking is made directly with the partner, under its own terms and cancellation rules; Holiday Routes doesn't sell stays or rentals. Save your confirmation in the Bookings vault (chapter 12).
Travel ideas assistant
- Click ✨ AI Ideas on a day (or Menu → AI Travel Ideas).
- Choose the day and a focus: playgrounds, castles, restaurants, fast chargers, nature walks, or type your own question.
- Click ✨ Ask AI.
- Click ➕ Add to Day on any suggestion you like. It is added to your itinerary straight away.
10Map, navigation and weather
- Click 📍 Map on a day, or Menu → Route Map, to open the map. Use the list at the top to show the whole trip or one day.
- 📈 Elevation Profile shows climbs and descents; useful in the mountains.
- Coloured pins: blue for sights, green for chargers, purple for stays, orange for food.
The 🧭 GPS button on a day opens the route with all its stops in Google Maps, Waze or Apple Maps with one click. Download GPX saves a file you can load into many car navigation systems and apps such as Garmin or Komoot.
Menu → Live Weather shows the forecast for the places on your route.
11Borders, tolls and safety kit
Open Menu → Border & Vignettes before you leave. It has four tabs:
- Vignettes & Tolls – what each country charges, where to buy it online, and a box to tick once bought.
- Mandatory Gear – vests, warning triangles, first-aid kit and more, with the fines if missing. Tick each item as you pack.
- Clean Air & ZTLs – city stickers and permits (Crit'Air, Umweltplakette, ZTL…).
- Emergency & SOS – emergency and breakdown numbers, with a one-tap call button on phones.
12Bookings vault
- Click Bookings Vault at the top, or + Voucher on a day.
- Click Add Confirmation, choose the type (flight, hotel, ticket, charging subscription, vignette) and the day.
- Add the booking code and attach the PDF or photo of your confirmation.
Attachments are private: only you (and people you share the trip with) can open them.
13Reading a trip in your language
Menus and buttons always follow your language. New trips are written in your language too. If a trip was written in another language, a bar offers 🌐 Translate with AI. The translation is saved, so everyone who opens the trip in that language sees it, and View original switches back at any time.
15Printable travel booklet
Open Menu → Generate your journey booklet and click 🖨️ Print / Save PDF. In the print window choose "Save as PDF" to keep a copy on your phone, or print it for the glovebox. Hotels, booking codes and emergency numbers are all in one document, handy where there is no signal.
16Savings card for social media
In Menu → Share (under Share & Media) adjust your car's consumption and local prices to see how much you save and the CO₂ you avoid. Download the image or copy a caption with hashtags for Instagram.
17Plans and installing the app
- Explorer (free) – one trip and 10 assistant requests. No booklet.
- Trip Pass (€14.99 once, VAT included) – 60 days of unlimited assistant requests, the printable booklet and the installable app with offline access. It does not renew. You still keep one trip.
- Annual Traveler (€49 per year, VAT included) – unlimited trips and assistant requests, the booklet, and the installable app with offline access.
Buying a plan
- Open Menu → Plans & Pricing and choose the Trip Pass or Annual Traveler.
- Tick the box confirming you want access to start straight away. Because access starts at once, the 14-day right of withdrawal ends when it starts (see our Terms).
- Click 💳 Upgrade now and pay by card on the secure page. Have a voucher? Use 🎟️ Redeem Code instead.
- You get a confirmation email with what you bought, the price and, for Annual Traveler, the renewal date and how to cancel.
To change your card, download invoices or cancel Annual Traveler, open Menu → Manage subscription. After cancelling you keep access until the end of the year you paid for.
One trip on Explorer and the Trip Pass
Explorer and the Trip Pass hold one trip, and that trip can't be deleted (edit it instead). If an Annual Traveler subscription ends with several trips, your most recent trip stays active and the others are 🔒 locked: you can see them in the trip list but not open them. We email you, send a reminder 5 days before, and delete locked trips 30 days after they were locked. Upgrading to Annual Traveler again before then unlocks them.
Install the app on your phone (Trip Pass and Annual Traveler)
- Open Menu → Install App and follow the instructions for your phone.
- On iPhone: tap the Share button in Safari, then Add to Home Screen.
- On Android: tap Install when Chrome offers it.
- Open each trip once while you have internet; it is then available offline.
When your Trip Pass or Annual Traveler ends, the installed app stops working offline and the trip copies on your phone are removed the next time it connects.
18Help and questions
Are my changes saved?
Yes, automatically. The green Live Sync dot shows everything is saved.
Can I use it on several devices?
Yes, on two devices at the same time, for example your computer and your phone; your trips are the same everywhere. Signing in on a third device signs out the one you used least recently. We email you whenever a new device signs in, so you'll know if it wasn't you: then change your password, which signs out every other device.
The assistant says it has reached its daily limit.
To keep the service fair, the assistant has a daily limit. Try again tomorrow; everything else in your trip keeps working.
How do I change my cookie or email choices?
Cookies: Menu → Cookie settings lets you allow or refuse analytics cookies at any time. Emails: in Menu → Profile, tick or untick product news and travel-planning tips; every newsletter also has an unsubscribe link.
Kilometres or miles?
Click KM at the top to switch, or set it in your profile.
How do I delete a trip?
Select it and click Delete at the top. This cannot be undone and also switches off its shared link. On Explorer and the Trip Pass your one trip can't be deleted; change it instead.
Is the information always correct?
The plan is a strong starting point, but opening hours, prices, flights and road rules change. Check the important details before you travel.
